If you believe you are a victim of identity theft, the Ellis County Sheriff's Office can assist you in documenting the crime and taking the appropriate steps to protect yourself.

What to Do If You Are a Victim

1. File a report with the Ellis County Sheriff's Office at (972) 645-0500 or in person at 300 S. Jackson St., Waxahachie, TX 75165.
2. Place a fraud alert on your credit reports by contacting one of the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion).
3. Review your credit reports for unauthorized accounts or charges.
4. Report the theft to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at IdentityTheft.gov.
5. Contact your financial institutions to report any fraudulent activity.
